OHHHHHHH, OSCAR. Could this dress be any more divine?!
Never thought I would see Katy Perry in this category, tbh.
What do you think?
K.I.S.S., or, Keep It Simple, Stupid.
Those are words to live by. And that’s what Melt Cosmetics does. They do matte lipstick, they do it bright, and that’s all they do.
I succumbed and ordered two of their colors a little while back (see, I told you I wasn’t as good as I should have been). I really love discovering new brands, and a brand specializing in matte lipsticks was right up my alley.
Having them side by side, I kind of want to wear them together as a gradient!
Belladonna 2 was part of my “Find the Perfect Red” initiative. From the product description, it seemed so promising.
When they arrived, however, I had a little bit of a shock swatching Belladonna 2 on my hand. It looked pink. I showed it to Rose. She said it looked pink, too. It was worrying.
At home, I put it on full force. Like, multiple layers. And finally, finally, finally, it was a gorgeous cherry red. Very bright, cherry red. Definitely a gorgeous color—check out Keiko Lynn rocking it on her blog—but, sadly, not a contender for my perfect red.
The real pleasant surprise, though, is Shady Lady. I bought it mostly on impulse. I was going to just get the red, but I have a weakness for fuchsia/magenta colors. (As revealed by my swatch book.) You could say that I’ve been looking for my perfect fuchsia as well, since I always buy them thinking they lean purple/violet, and then on me, they just look hot pink.
First of all, when I swatched Shady Lady on my hand, even once I wiped it off, there was a stain there. It actually took me a couple of days to get it completely off!
When I wore the lipstick for the whole day, it left an amazing stain on as well. But, in a good way. Like, at 5:00 in the afternoon, my coworker commented on how awesome my lipstick was—and I hadn’t reapplied all day! I was just wearing the remnants and the stain that was left.
The best part of it for me is that it does lean a bit purple, and it is true to that when I wear it, as well. It’s the shade I was wearing in this photo:
I’ve found my perfect fuchsia/magenta!
If you couldn’t tell from that story, they wear amazingly well and long, stay matte, and feel good on your lips.
The only thing about the lipsticks is they have a very strong smell/taste. I can’t even really identify what it is. It’s kind of vanilla mixed with wax mixed with something else. I’m sure some people like it, but I would have liked them better without it. But they’re still totally worth it.
And, for Black Friday, they are offering 25% off! Just use code PAINTITBLACK.
What do you think of the colors? Have you discovered any new brands lately? Are you going to get anything for Black Friday? need to live vicariously through you!
I know that it’s been a while since I received the Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish™ Hot Cloth Cleanser Starter Kit that I won through Birchbloggers. You may or may not have been wondering about my review. Well, it’s finally ready.
Before I go any further, I do need to say that I feel truly thankful (heh, get it?) for having won this to try. It’s very hard writing a blog when you can’t afford new products to review. That’s probably why I took it as far as I did to really be able to give you a fair assessment.
The Liz Earle cleansing system works in two parts. The first step is the cream cleanser. Free from mineral oil, it contains naturally active ingredients, including eucalyptus and cocoa butter. It’s supposed to be a gentle cleanser, suited to all skin types, that still removes even the most stubborn of makeup. The second step is polishing with the muslin cloth. A gentle way to exfoliate your skin, it makes for a really lovely regimen.
Everything I’ve been reading about skin care lately has said to use cream-based cleansers, even if you have oily skin. Any cleanser that foams is supposed to be the devil. So this system definitely fits the bill.
Reviewing a cult product like this, one that has won over 90 beauty awards, one that so many people consider a holy grail product, you feel a certain burden of responsibility.
It’s just such a lovely system. Look at it.
La nuit de l’amour!
It’s a little kitschier than I normally wear, but I adore anything with stars, and LOVERS IN PARIS, ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!
I love when I read a good blog and not only do I get great beauty and skincare tips, but I also find out about new bands.
I am really digging the track, “Cut It Out.” Hope you enjoy, too!
Any new band recommendations for me? What are you listening to today?
And if you’ll remember, I was unemployed at the time, but still wondering if I would spend $75 on a lipstick regardless.
Since then, I have gotten a job, but the question of whether spending that much money on a lipstick would classify me as clinically insane has not been resolved. Also, just because I’ve worked for a week does not mean I yet have any money. (I don’t. And I have bills. And debts. And I took a nearly $30k pay cut for this position, so I probably will never be able to spend like that.)
I even went into Barneys because I was nearby to try it on and make sure it wasn’t really that special a color.
But, since my new financial situation means I’m going to have to be ever resourceful, I followed up on a hunch that I had. Let me explain.
One of the things I do when discovering a new product that I’m jonesing for is to search for other bloggers who have had experience with it and have written about what they think. Now, every single blogger who wrote about these lipsticks seemed to have a sampler card, whether gotten from the company alone or as a gift with purchase. A sampler card that included my color, plus 5 others, including 2 reds I wouldn’t mind trying.
Well, guess who’s an expert eBayer? And guess who just won the sampler on Friday?
Shamelessly stole the photo from the auction listing as I don’t have it in my possession yet. But I couldn’t wait!
I paid less than $10 for it. And even had a Paypal balance from something I sold, so it’s almost like I got it for free.
So in a few days, I will be doing my happy dance. In the most gorgeous lipstick color ever! (To be honest, the guy at Barneys made me try on the Garde Rose shade Lisa mentions in her article, as well, and I’m sad it’s not included in the sampler. But still.)
Do you use eBay? What’s been your biggest coup of a purchase?
I feel like my Isabel Marant pour H&M dress is a given. It’s the perfect occasion to wear it. But because the dress is so delicate and feminine, I think the rest of the outfit should add some edge.
It’s so hard you guys, now that I’m employed, to remind myself that a) I have not been paid yet, b) I have so many bills to pay before I can shop, and c) I’m operating on a MUCH tighter budget with this job, but my god, all I want to do is shop.
Especially when the desire for something long ago has suddenly been reawakened. I first saw Modern Vice’s Jett shoes on Keiko Lynn’s blog back in April. Then twice this week I’ve seen them again, once more on Keiko, but also on De Lune. And now not only do I want them, I want them in multiple colors! Oh, the agony!
I never thought I would want a pair of bright yellow shoes so much.
But the red is so pretty, too!
I’m not even usually super into menswear-inspired shoes. But I just adore the look of the wingtips and am crushing hard on the buckles.
Of course, I absolutely cannot afford these right now. Or, like, maybe ever again. But I still want them. A lot.
What do you think of the shoes? Which color would you get? What are you lusting after this week?
