On my continuing quest to find the perfect red,* I decided it was high time I hit the Illamasqua counter. They have an amazing array of colors in their lipstick line, and I had read about Maneater and Sangers, in particular.
(*I’m starting to think there’s no such thing, but more on that a different time.)
Color me surprised that I wound up walking out with a shade I hadn’t even heard of. Box, described as a deep, scarlet red, was actually created by Illamasqua’s creative director, Alex Box, as her signature red lipstick. So it looked like I was in good company!
To the video tape! I mean photos…
Illamasqua lipsticks go for $26 a pop, so that is on the higher side. (It’s too bad; they have a ton of colors I would love to try.) (Not that $26 seems expensive when you compare it with $75…) (I just realized that they’re $24 at Sephora. What gives?!)
This being a matte lipstick, it was dry, but not Ruby Woo dry. It tugs a tiny bit going on, but it spreads really nicely and wears really nicely. It feels very velvety on. And also, being matte, it lasts and lasts. (So if you reapply less, it lasts longer, so does that even out with the money? Hmm…)
It’s not totally dissimilar to Russian Red, which is a touch darker. But this is a more vibrant, yet dark, every day shade. (Well, if you’re like me and you wear red lipstick for every day. 😉 )
One more photo for the road…
(Yep, the Phillip Lim sweatshirt is alive and kicking!)
As I mentioned, I would really love to try more of the Illamasqua lipsticks (actually, the whole line seems right up my alley), so I would definitely recommend, at least, the Illamasqua matte lipsticks. Since I haven’t tried any of the other formulas, I can’t vouch for them. But I do find myself reaching a lot for Box when I’m looking for a red. (I don’t know why I’m never just satisfied with my MAC lipsticks!)
What do you think of the color? Have you tried any of the Illamasqua lipsticks? Or any other of their products? What are your perfect reds?
