Review: Illamasqua Neutral Palette

I first ran across the gorgeous bronze-y, antique gold shade in the Illamasqua Neutral Palette in this post, and I pretty much decided then and there that it needed to be in my life. Then I got lured in by the Chanel Charming Palette (damn you, Lisa Eldridge [just kidding, I love you, call me]), and it drove all thoughts of the Illamasqua palette out of my head. Well, after returning the Chanel palette, I wandered over to the Illamasqua counter and righted this terrible wrong. And now this goodness is in my life.

Illamasqua Neutral Palette – $46.50

This bronzey goodness is everything that the Chanel was not. (BUT IT DOESN’T HAVE THE PURPLEY GREY COLOR. Okay, I’m stopping now.) DSC_1728 The palette includes a matte creamy white, called Stealth; the bronze/antique gold, called Vintage; a warm matte brown, called Obsidian; and a matte black, called Wolf. Illamasqua Neutral Palette DSC_1751-2 Stealth, Vintage, and Obsidian are all velvety smooth, though Wolf comes off a bit chalky. It’s not a problem if you’re using it in your outer corner with a brush, but if you were trying to use it for a larger area, it might not go on that well. It wears very well with primer (my NARS Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base); I put it on at 7:30 am, and at 11:30 pm it was only slightly starting to crease. Illamasqua is a brand I feel like I should have more from in my stash. They’re known for their out-there colors and textures, which is right up my alley. Now that there’s a counter at Bloomingdales, I fear I may have to investigate further. (If only it was a tad bit more affordable.) My issue with Illamasqua products is that the design of the packaging is nice in theory, but not execution. There is SO much plastic. It really takes up unnecessary space. It’s also strangely shaped and larger than it needs to be. And the plastic feels a bit cheap. DSC_1726 But no one is perfect, certainly not me, and this is a great palette to take traveling with you. It’ll have you covered for both day and night looks. So I guess that compensates for the extra space it takes up? I have already done a FOTD with this palette, which will be up on the blog in a couple of days. I’ll link back here once it’s up! And here it is! Do you have this palette? Do you like the colors? Do you use Illamasqua products? (Do you ever feel like throwing your Illamasqua palettes like a shuriken?)
