I’m so over Black Orchid by Tom Ford. My new love is Plum Japonais by Tom Ford. (Then again, I’ve always had a hard time staying true to any fragrance.) I mean, it’s still awesome. It is. But it’s very strong, and every time I wear it, my brother tells me it smells like men’s cologne.
On the other hand, the first time I wore Plum Japonais by Tom Ford, I was intoxicated. I had a sample, and for me. wearing new perfumes is always a gamble. Will it make me nauseous? It’s fair to say it did not.
I became distinctly aware of it on myself while on the 7 train, pulling out of Hunters Point Avenue into the daylight, before my stop at Court Square. I was bundled up in my big puffy coat and cowl and just smelled this delicious smokiness. It felt so perfect for the weather and for being all bundled up; something warm, smoky, deep. (Cinnamon and saffron are some of the scent notes. Sounds weird, but trust me, it works.)
Since then, I’ve worn my sample so often I’m almost out. And therein lies the problem. TOM FORD PERFUMES ARE SO FREAKING EXPENSIVE. You can get a small bottle of Black Orchid for under $100, but the Private Collection fragrances can’t be bought for less than $210 for the “small” size.
The terrible thing is, I think there is really a need for a smaller, more affordable size. There is an epidemic of decants on eBay (as well as other sites specializing in decants). I thought very seriously of buying a full-size bottle, but I really don’t see this as a scent I’ll be wearing come warmer weather, so it would just be a waste of money. Looks like I’ll be partaking of the helpful sellers on eBay…
Do you have a favorite Tom Ford fragrance? How do you afford them?! What are you wishing for this week?
