I don’t know if you’re as tired of looking at my face as I am, but good thing, because today is January 2014 Favorites day!

January 2014 Favorites

1. NARS Guy Bourdin Day Dream Blush
This was my impulse buy of the collection, after seeing it on everyone and being asked by someone at the NARS counter if that’s the blush from the collection I had bought (he just assumed…didn’t that mean I should have, too?). So I tracked one down and the pretty peachy pink color has graced my cheeks quite a bit this month.

2. By Terry Cover-Expert Foundation
Except for the weekends when I wore absolutely no makeup, this foundation has been on my face almost exclusively.  I’ll spare you another review, but suffice it to say, this was a BIG part of my January beauty routine.

3. Bourjois Volume Clubbing Mascara
A spontaneous pick this summer when I was in Paris and shopping at the Bourjois boutique, since I favor volume mascara and hate paying for high-end brands when they don’t really work any better. I’m ashamed to say I hadn’t actually picked this up to try until this month! And, surprisingly, this has given my Voluminous a run for its money! This is saying a lot, when I’ve been loyal to this L’Oreal offering since college, with an occasional experiment here and there. I’m kind of scared of falsies, but this one almost makes me look like I’m wearing them.

Also, the first day I wore it, when I went to take it off, and the makeup remover would not budge it, I asked out loud, “Is this waterproof?” Bourjois describes it as “extreme resistance,” and I can attest to the fact that it really, really is. (I guess that’s why it’s the “clubbing” mascara.) Should I decide this is my permanent replacement for Voluminous, luckily, Urban Outfitters carries it, too—no need to wait for a return trip to Paris!

4. and 5. Maybelline Eye Studio Color Tattoo 24hr Cream Gel Shadow in Bold Gold + MAC Eyeshadow in All That Glitters
The Maybelline Color Tattoo Cream Gel Shadows continue to impress! This month, I discovered that Bold Gold looks fantastic, especially with a bit of All That Glitters patted on top (what an all-star!). Despite the fact that I wear eye makeup every day, the first day I wore it, my seatmate said, “Wow, I love your eyeshadow!” so I knew I had found a winning combo. See it in action here.

6. Shu Uemura Hearts and Flowers by Murakami S Curler
Who knew that curling my lashes would become part of my everyday beauty routine? It used to be something I reserved for special occasions, dreading trying to fit that cage over my weirdly shaped eye, invariably bending the outer corners into the wrong shape because of their down turn, and pinching myself and tearing up, ruining my eye makeup. Well, no more! My lashes get curled with no agony, with precision, and the wide-eyed look it gives me is worth the extra few seconds it takes. There is one thing I hate about it, though—the little rubber piece on the top part comes off every time I put it back in my makeup bag. I’m this close to Crazy Glue-ing it on!

Have you tried any of these? What are your favorites this month?

    • Oh, whoops! That's what I get for writing the text in a Word doc without the photo in front of me. 😉 Definitely would not pull it off!

    • I switched to a different eye makeup remover, and it came off a bit better. I probably need to use a cleansing oil for the easiest way. But it's nice to know that it also probably means the color won't bleed during the day. I hate finding black stuff under my eyes.

  1. I finally have gone back to L'Oreal Voluminous mascara and once again, I am in love!

I am also using the L'Oreal Lineur Intense liquid liner until I can afford to go back to Sephora and replace my UD 24/7 in Perversion that was loved to death.

    • I had a whole argument with a coworker about why DiorShow was not better and was certainly not worth the price (she disagrees with me). I just know I'll never pay for it again.

You loved the L'Oreal for a long time, so it'll be like rediscovering another lost love!

    • Oh, don't say that! I think it's a really personal choice. I have friends who don't feel the need to wear makeup, and I think that's great for them. Personally, I started playing around with my mother's makeup when I was a child and haven't stopped. But mostly I wear it because of the difference it makes to me. If you feel like your best self leaving the house with little to no makeup, I think you should stick with that! I'm kind of envious. 🙂
