Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush. The four words that sent the beauty blogosphere into pandemonium. Somehow I managed to snag one the first day they went on sale on the Hourglass site.

I had pretty much already decided on Radiant Magenta, but as I was sitting there, trying to make up my mind, literally the blushes sold out from under me and it was the only one left. So the Universe decided, and It decided well.

I know that people are fanatic about their Ambient Lighting Powders. I do have one, but it’s not one of the more popular ones. (Maybe that’s why I’m not fanatic about them? But when I went to the Hourglass counter last year to be matched for the Immaculate Liquid Powder Foundation (a must for anyone with super oily skin), she used Mood Light and told me it made my skin look amazing. I believed her. And it looks nice, but I’ve yet to be like, wow, I couldn’t live without this product. (I would like to try Dim Light or Diffused Light, which are the ones that inspire the fanaticism.)

So, in a way, I was glad to pick a blush combination that used one of the other powders. I thought since it was called “magenta,” it would be cool toned. But one of the first reviews I read said it pulled warm. I think on me, it qualifies as neutral to warm, I have yet to try and pair it with a cool look, but look at how it looks swatched:

And for those of you wondering how it compares in size with the powders:

However, I have to say that despite wincing at the price and the fact that I felt like I was buying it just because I had to have it to review or I couldn’t call myself a beauty blogger, I love it. I brushed it on and not only was there this lovely pink flush, my cheeks just GLOWED. It’s not ugly glittery or shimmery, it’s subtle, but beautiful.

It even looks pretty washed out with flash!

And even better, it surprised me by lasting through the day. I was afraid that because it’s mixed with the powder, the color would wear off, but it was there when I came home from work and still looked lovely.

So what do you think? Have you tried any of them yet? Do you think you’ll be picking any up?

  1. Eeeek, I'm so tempted by these but I'm on an empties mission before another blusher gets over this threshold! I really want to try the ambient light powder too but I have a massive tub of La Mer powder to get through that I just can't get over for economy – I've had it over a year and the end isn't in sight yet!

    • Good for you, though! I didn't even have time to think about whether I needed this or even wanted it, it was just a reflex: "Buy!!" I am really happy with it, though. And it's good to know La Mer lasts forever—for the prices they charge, it should!

    • The entire thing surprised me with how good it was. The longevity AND it wasn't sparkly in the least. I actually really love it. The Universe did me one right!

    • Oh, that's so sad, I really love their products! Hopefully you can find it somewhere. 🙂

And, wow, thank you SO much! I am so touched!! I will get my post up soon. xx

    • I honestly think the thing is a work of art. I had to photograph it before I even tried to use it. And then it just looks so lovely on. Such a wonderful surprise! x
