Believe it or not, even people who blog about beauty and fashion don’t always feel so creative when it comes to makeup or clothing combinations. Some days I’m just not feeling any of it. So it was a blessing the day that the Popbasic Ashbury Collection walked into my life.
I’m not even sure how I first found out about Popbasic, but I’m pretty sure it was through Facebook. (I am the exception to the “Facebook ads don’t work” adage, I swear.) Begun by co-founders Madeline Veenstra and Coen Hyde, Popbasic makes being fashionable foolproof: They release a new three-piece “micro collection” approximately each month, giving you all the pieces you need to pull out a high-style outfit.
Each collection is limited edition and is purchased as a set, ranging from $50-$100 per collection. Plus, there is WORLDWIDE free shipping. It is not a subscription service; you choose whether you want to purchase each month’s collection. (And if you use my link, you get a $15 credit [and so do I].)
The Ashbury collection includes a 100% cotton basic black tank top, a really amazing paneled vegan leather skirt, and an absolutely stunning rhinestone collar necklace. Boom. Outfit done.
I mentioned the Ashbury Collection in my Breton stripe dress entry, and it’s true, I did hesitate for about 5 minutes about buying it. I fell head over heels in love with the necklace and the look of it with a casual outfit. But I have my Tenley Road vegan leather skirt that you see all the time, so I didn’t know if I really needed another. I also don’t wear tank tops alone, though I figured that I could find a way to wear it.
I can’t tell you how glad I am that I caved. First of all, the service is amazing. I had my package within days. My necklace came damaged, so Madeline express mailed a replacement the very next day. Also, I have since worn the necklace with dressier outfits, and I have worn the skirt with other shirts (do I need to say one was striped?).The possibilities are endless!
On this particular day, it was a sunny, but slightly chilly day in New York, so I paired it up with my old, amazingly soft Gap denim jacket, but also tights and some kick ass shoes.
I actually lost a little bit of weight while I was away, and I am THISCLOSE to ordering another collection in a size down. The elastic on the skirt is very forgiving, and it looks good regardless, but I guess I’m being hopeful that things will continue in this way, and I want to be able to wear the skirt for ages to come! What do you think? Or can vegan leather be taken in?
Either way, I can’t wait to add other Popbasic pieces to mix and match with! What a brilliant idea. (Wish it had been mine!)

Your hair looks great! Is this pre or post haircut?
Post, but over a month post, so it's had some time to grow in. :p
Love the skirt! I saw this collection somewhere else (I can't remember where) and it seems really versatile. Thumbs up, Popbasic!
