Wishlist Wednesday #9

ARE YOU READY?! IT’S TOMORROW!! IT’S TOMORROW!!!!

I would be remiss as a blogger if today’s Wishlist Wednesday was not about the Isabel Marant for H&M collection.

I, like everyone else, am basically salivating over the idea of getting my hands on something that Isabel Marant designed that I can actually afford. However, as I have mentioned countless times and you’re probably so tired of hearing me say, I’m unemployed and have no money.

So that means I’m going to sit it out, right? Ha, as if. But I’ve made myself pick ONE thing that I’m going to get. Just one.

isabel-06 WHY IS THIS THING SO GORGEOUS?! WHY CAN’T I HAVE IT?!

This is what I want. I want this skirt. So badly, it hurts. However, for reasons I won’t get into, I can’t wear skirts that are too much above my knee, and I’m pretty sure, based on all the photos, this falls under that category. So, no gorgeous silver skirt for me.

Here are some more pieces from the collection that I’m dying over.

isabel-05 Again, I couldn’t wear this, but it doesn’t stop me from wanting it.

Is this a tunic? I don’t even care!

Wishlist Wednesday #8

So sorry! This week’s Wishlist Wednesday is a bit late and a bit hungover. But at least it’s still Wednesday?

Today I ask the question, how much money is too much money for a lipstick? When it’s possibly the most gorgeous shade of purple/plum I’ve ever seen, called Pourpre Maure, I may answer, there is no such thing as too much.

Because today, ladies and ladies, what I covet, is a $75 lipstick from Serge Lutens. (Yes, he does makeup as well. But now you understand the price tag.)

05-pourpre-maure-recharge You have no idea.

Yes, I know, it does NOTHING for you by looking at this photo. But, again, I blame Lisa Eldridge, because look. IT DOESN’T EVEN MATTER THAT I HAVE THE ALTERNATE MAC COLOR SHE MENTIONS. BECAUSE LOOK.

Pourpre So much gorgeousness all around.

So, what are you lusting after this week? How much is too much to spend on a lipstick? How much is the most you’ve ever spent? And am I insane? Answer in the comments!

Wishlist Wednesday #7

Okay, now. I’ve covered boots, jewelry, dresses, hats, makeup, and shoes. It’s time for purses!! (You know, all the basic food groups!)

I discovered the bags of French brand Tammy & Benjamin through a boutique that I adore in Paris. Shortly after that, I saw Valentine rocking one of their bags. (In fact, I found out about her blog when the company referred to that entry, and I’m glad I did!)

Lucky for me, they deliver to the US, with no problems at all. (As does Shop des Créateurs.) I just adore their vintage feel, combined with the amazing French craftsmanship. I currently own the Elizabeth in gold, the Petit Charlie in blue, and the Emma in black. But what I really want now is this:

TammyAndBenjamin_03_resize Just freaking look at it!!

Considering my current unemployed state and lack of fundage, the good news is, I can’t find this version of the Petit Charlie anywhere. The bad news is, I CAN’T FIND THIS VERSION OF THE PETIT CHARLIE ANYWHERE. It’s in their lookbook for the new collection, but it’s not on their site. Or Shop des Créateurs. I tweeted the company, but they did not respond.

IT HURTS MY SOUL THAT THIS BAG CANNOT BE MINE.

But, if I have to settle for a replacement, the yellow and black Petit Charlie is pretty spiffy, too. Still. *sniff*

How many purses are too many purses? And isn’t “sac à main” such a great term? What are you lusting after this week?

Wishlist Wednesday #6

My god! It just occurred to me that I have gone on and on on this blog about my love for makeup and even music, but I have neglected my other love: SHOES. (Well, other than the Chloés…)

And I do love them. In all colors, materials, heel heights (but preferably high!). Which is why I am still lusting after this pair, having tried them on in a Joie store a month on a half ago (while getting myself a sample of Folle de Joie).

Despite the fact that they are weather inappropriate.

Wishlist Wednesday #5

Hello, again, and welcome to another edition of Things Shani Wants But Can’t Afford (Right Now) Because She’s Unemployed. Today changes things up a bit, in that I’m not just going to write about a single item that I’m lusting after, but an entire new makeup line.

I recently read this article about celebrity makeup artist Troy Surratt‘s new makeup line, Surratt, which just debuted at Barneys New York (sadly, not all the items are available online right now).

I think we all love perusing Japanese stores such as Muji for their interesting and ingenious products . Surratt took all that innovation and injected it into his line, and some of the items inspire unnatural amounts of lust in me.

For example:

Surratt describes his Autographique liner (liquid liner) pen as being inspired by calligraphy pens, and contains a similar capillary system. The point is fine and made of nylon, not felt. And—get this!—the tip is refillable! So instead of throwing out another whole pen, you can just replace the tip. I think this is a brilliant idea, and I really want to try it. (I have liquid eyeliner dysfunction, so anything that may help me with my eyeliner applying skills…)

Another Japanese influence Surratt drew on for his line was the difference in brow pencils, making his harder and more powdery. This gives the pencil more of a graphite pencil feel, and allows it to fill in between the hairs of the eyebrows more naturally. I’ve been trying to find a good one, and this sounds pretty excellent. (And it’s also refillable!)

The article says that his line has a look-good-on-everyone red, and of course, I, in my search for the perfect red, NEED to try it. It’s the Automatique Lip Crayon in Alluring. The product description says that it has a non-drying, suede-like, matte finish, which sounds just right for a red. And it looks pretty stunning to me!

Another great feature of the line is customizable palettes, which, if you’ve ever had a pre-made palette with colors you just don’t use, you know is a godsend.

In general, the line looks amazing (see here, here, and here).  And it doesn’t hurt that the man himself replied to my tweet! 🙂 As soon as I have some money, I am hightailing it to Barneys to try all of these out for myself!

Do any of these tempt you? What are you wishing for this week?

Wishlist Wednesday #4

Number 4 already?! Time really does fly!

As I mentioned, on Friday, during our day of fun in the West Village, I was struck dumb and unable to move on, captivated by a hat in the window of Goorin Bros. I knew that if I went in and tried it on, I would fall in love. But I could not make myself walk away.

So, in I walked. Meet my new spirit animal hat, Jessica Rogers:

105-5587-RED-L01 I took a photo in it, but it came out hideous, so this is courtesy of the Goorin Bros. site.

Have you ever seen anything so divine?! I’m obviously a fan of most things retro, but this hat is just perfection. Look at that gorgeous cherry red. LOOK AT THE POLKA DOTS. And it’s only $65, which is actually really affordable for a hat like this, if you’re not unemployed.  (I’m a huge fan of milliners, but they are usually waaaaaay pricey.)

I tried it on and I felt like this:

The shop is actually stacked from top to bottom with amazing hats, so if a cloche isn’t your thing, you have plenty to choose from. (Rose tried this one on. And for the record, I also totally want this one. That teal is to die for! ) They have locations in several states and a couple in Canada, but obviously there is always their handy dandy (really beautifully designed) web site (where I am creating my wishlist as soon as I finish typing this!)

But if I see you walking down the street in my Jessica Rogers, this is WAR.

What are your favorite hats? What are you wishing for this week?

Wishlist Wednesday #3

Oh, Anthropologie, you are KILLING me. It’s not bad enough at least a third of my wardrobe originates from you (think of all the money!!). Now you had to release a Paris-themed October lookbook and mercilessly taunt my unemployed soul. I pretty much want everything. And to be back in Paris. But if I have to narrow it down to a single thing that I am craving more than any of the others…

Pinceau DressI mean, look at the back!!

It’s so ladylike, with retro touches, and a hint of edge. It’s my style encapsulated in a single dress.

Coming in a very close second is the Pixelated Fleur Dress. Sigh. Baby needs a job, vite!!

Which pieces caught your eye from the lookbook? What are you lusting after right now?

Wishlist Wednesday #2

First off, just a quick update on last week’s Wishlist Wednesday: I was wrong about Valentine having the Chloé Susanna boots. In her recent post, she identified them as a very, VERY convincing imitation. Too bad they don’t have my size! Tant pis. 🙁

Today’s object of desire is by a jeweler that I have been a bit obsessed with of late, Stephie Tchamanian , whose line is called Liliclaspe. I’ve bought about 20 pieces from her in half a year, and people ALWAYS comment on it. She has style. She is a doll. And her jewelry is to die for.

Cadet Chain All kneel before the glory of the majesty of the Cadet Chain

However, again, unemployed, no money, yadda yadda. Also, this one is a bit more pricey than the other pieces I have bought. But I am obsessed with the colors of the stone. A friend recently commented to me, “You’ve really been into raw stones lately,” and she’s right. I’ve gotten a lot of druzy and rough-cut stone pieces from Liliclaspe (as well as Cleopatra’s Bling, seen here), and this would just put the feather in my cap of a collection.

Maybe it’ll still be there when I can afford it! If not, I’m just enjoying looking at it. If you head over there, send my regards!

What are you lusting after this week?

Wishlist Wednesday #1

Just around a year ago, I first saw a photo of one of the WAGs* from my team wearing these AMAZING boots. She had them in black. And in red. And I wanted to know who made them. And to own a pair myself. I held out some hope of them being even remotely affordable. I mean, why crush my dreams before they even began?

*The term used for wives and girlfriends of football players, for the uninitiated. 😉

Well, I should have known. They turned out to be the ubiquitous Chloé Susanna (née Susan) boots.

0462261210022_396x528 Comme ca, these ones

501669760_product_1 Ou comme ca? Or these ones?

Le sigh. OF COURSE they would have to be ridiculously unaffordable designer shoes. These puppies would set me back $1345 dollars. To anyone who a) is on a budget b) likes to travel a lot c) is not rich and famous and d) has any brains in their head, that’s just too much money to spend on A SINGLE PAIR of shoes. Granted, a spectacular one. And, at the time (like now), I was unemployed. Definitely no time to spend that much money.

But, as I mentioned, if you’re someone who loves to travel, how do you reconcile spending the amount of money of a plane ticket to Europe on a pair of shoes EVER?? Go to Paris or buy the Chloé boots? I mean, really?!

The scary thing is, if you google them, SO many people have them. Which is the trouble with coveted, iconic designer items. And one reason why I usually stay away from buying things that are very recognizable—I don’t really like to have the same things as everyone else. But I really can’t blame all these regular people who have spent the money on them—they just look so damn good on!

So I contented myself with these very serviceable knock-offs by Vince Camuto.

41-C31-HcaL Vince Camuto Tema boots

But I confess, every time someone has complimented me on them, and it’s been very often, I invariably reply with, “Thanks, they’re my fake Chloés.” Which shows where my heart really lies.

Even when I was employed again, I just kept saying, I can’t spend the money. I already have my black Vince Camutos, would I really buy the red ones? (And there are grey ones now. And black with silver hardware. [Originally I had disliked the gold and wanted the hardware to be silver, but now I look at the silver and think it looks cheap.])

A couple of months ago, a used pair of the red boots showed up on eBay for half price, and the only thing that kept me from snatching them up was that I am once again unemployed. And the last vestiges of sanity that told me that over $700 for a pair of boots is STILL too much. Le sigh encore.

Just recently, I saw a photo of one of my favorite French bloggers, Valentine, wearing the Susanna boots, and my lust was reawakened all over again.

So the question becomes: When I am once again employed, what do I do? Do I buy them? And which color?? And how does one find a sugar daddy??

But whether or not I do, these divine beings remain at the tippy tippy top of my wishlist.
