Celebrity Fashion Lust #11 – Amy Adams in Antonio Berardi

The dress Amy Adams wore to the Screen Actors Guild Awards was everything her Golden Globes dress was not, for me.

Amy-Adams-dress-2014-Screen-Actors-Guild-Awards-5 When the cast got up on stage and I saw how this looked full-length…just stunning. I love how it’s classic and modern at the same time. And the bright blue color, j’adore! Especially with the red lip.

What do you think of this one?

FOTD: Illamasqua Neutral Palette and MAC Rebel Lipstick

Affilier Acheté

Alright, as promised, here is my face of the day look with the gorgeous Illamasqua Neutral Palette. And since it was the poll winner, I threw in MAC Rebel Lipstick for good measure. Bronze-y/gold + purple = perfection. If I do say so myself.

Celebrity Fashion Lust: Golden Globes Edition

Awards season is my favorite! Obviously, not for the awards themselves or the speeches, but THE DRESSES.

So here is a roundup of my favorites from this Sunday’s Golden Globe Awards, in no particular order.

Sandra Bullock in Prabal Gurung

Apparently I’m in the minority, but I LOVED this gown. Loved how interesting it was and the colors. And I thought she looked freaking stunning. Her makeup was flawless. I want every bit of it.

P.S. See how much better my skin is looking?!

MAC Lady Danger lipstick. You knew I was going to break down and buy it, right? Well, of course. It’s such a standout color, I think, even more vibrant and attention catching than red. But I have a gorgeous look for you to incorporate it into your everyday makeup wardrobe.

Is spending money on designer handbags worth it?

Not so much a New Year’s resolution, but since the being-unemployed-and-having-no-money-and-then-getting-a-job-and-making-a-lot-less-money-than-before thing, I’m trying to spend my money more wisely (to varying degrees of success).

I know they say to make your investment pieces your shoes and handbags. My tendency, however, is to buy a lot of clothing rather than pay for quality and have fewer items. (I can’t help it! I see cute things and my fingers order them without my brain engaging! I could never even pretend to be French.)

The thing is that, like with the Chloé Susanna boots, I just can’t reconcile paying the price of a trip to Europe on a pair of shoes. That’s not to say I haven’t ever paid what I consider too much money on a pair of shoes or have only cheap handbags. But I do prefer buying lesser known or, preferably, indie designers. I don’t like advertising for a brand. The one bag I have that has a well-known name on it (thought it’s a canvas bag), I wear that side on the inside.

(I do confess the desire to one day own at least one pair of Manolos or Jimmy Choos or Louboutins.)

So, given my usual aversion to status bags, I am surprised by my recent fascination with them.

Two bloggers that I read have both been posting looks with their Chanel quilted flap bags. There is no way to hide that this is a Chanel bag. If I wore it backwards, there would be no point. (Not that I could afford any of them even used.) But look, there is something so undeniably special and fashionable about them.

Les Cinq Petites Choses #4

Affilier Acheté

I decided that instead of talking about all the things that I want, I would talk about the things that I have or that I don’t have but am just appreciating.

Alors, voici, les cinq petites choses que je suis amoureuse en ce moment (is that right?). The 5 little things I’m loving right now.

#1 – You’ll notice that I threw in some French again, and that’s heavily influenced by two of the things on the list today.

I was talking to my friend Darren in Montreal, and he recommended some music artists to me who sing in French. (As we know, I like them.) I promptly went and looked them up, and super glad I did. I’m pretty crap discussing music (despite how much I love listening to it), so I’ll paraphrase Darren.

Alex Nevsky – Himalaya Mon Amour He’s kind of chamber pop/rock with some 60s influences. Apparently, “On leur a fait croire” became an actual radio hit up there, despite the fact that though it sounds so fun, the lyrics are terribly sarcastic and dark.

Le Couleur – Voyage Love EP (Yes, “Le,” not “La,” the error is apparently intentional.) It has a very disco synth sound, but it’s undeniably modern. I even like it despite the synth. 😉 “Vacances de 87” and “Voyage amoureux” are great to dance to.

Peter Peter – Une version améliorée de la tristesse He’s apparently the indie darling up in Montreal. He used to make more folk rock music, but discovered the synthesizer for this album, so it’s kind of experimental synth pop. And good.

(Okay, so technically this was 3 things. A bonus. 😉 )

Wishlist Wednesday #15 – Lack of Color Montana Hat plus a poll

Merry Christmas to all my readers who celebrate! I hope Santa has fulfilled all your wishes! Me, I’m left still curating my endless wishlist. (I feel like an endless wishlist is a metaphor for life. :p ) And this week’s is a doozy!

I was lucky enough to get to meet up with the lovely Olivia of Cleopatra’s Bling (of which I waxed poetic last week) on her visit to NY. (And I got to pick up some gems in person! 😀 ) But her rings were almost eclipsed by her amazing Lack of Color hat (made in Australia, her native country, from 100% Australian wool).

You know someone is wearing a good hat when you literally want to steal it off of their head. Or, in Olivia’s case, when New Yorkers on the street stop her to tell her how much they love it and ask where she got it.

The Search for the Perfect Red: Illamasqua Box Matte Lipstick

Affilier Acheté

On my continuing quest to find the perfect red,* I decided it was high time I hit the Illamasqua counter. They have an amazing array of colors in their lipstick line, and I had read about Maneater and Sangers, in particular.

(*I’m starting to think there’s no such thing, but more on that a different time.)

Color me surprised that I wound up walking out with a shade I hadn’t even heard of. Box, described as a deep, scarlet red, was actually created by Illamasqua’s creative director, Alex Box, as her signature red lipstick. So it looked like I was in good company!

To the video tape! I mean photos…

Celebrity Fashion Lust #9 – Adele in Stella McCartney

I’m tired of looking at my own face on here, so let’s look at Adele’s gorgeous face instead.

image
She is perfection

Which is even more perfect with that veiled fascinator. And this Stella McCartney dress has definitely been improved from the original version.

I just love how Adele always manages to look both modest and gorgeous in her choice of clothing. You don’t have to show a ton of skin to be beautiful.

What do you think?
