I’m getting on a plane tonight and heading for one of my favorite cosmetics-buying countries for two weeks, and it’s left me thinking about the other products I have at home. I read recently about people who threw out makeup because they were past their expiration date, and I thought to myself, “They put expiration dates on makeup?!”
Maybe it’s something I should be more aware of, but I want to know what you think.
Do you pay attention to makeup expiration dates? Do you throw products out after they’ve “expired,” or do you keep them anyway?
Personally, the only makeup I really replace regularly is mascara. I don’t get a new one every 3 months, as they advise, but I do change that up most often. I have bags of old makeup that I don’t use (and have been looking for a place to donate to, but more on that a different time), but I find myself periodically digging into the bags and pulling out old products I haven’t used in ages and am suddenly in need of again.
I personally feel that things like powder eyeshadows and blushes don’t go bad. Lipsticks are obvious when they’re past their prime—they’re not supposed to smell and feel like crayons!—but most everything else? Nah.
Anyway, bon voyage, lovely readers! I have posts scheduled for when I’m gone, but I’m not sure how often I’ll get to reply to comments. But please leave them anyway! 😉
At long last, I have a look for you with the NARSissist eyeshadow palette, as promised. Though I have been featuring other products, I am getting a decent amount of use out of this. It was pricey, but I think it was a good investment. (There are just so many freaking palettes out there these days, with new ones released every week. It can make your head spin.)
It will surprise no one that I like to shop. Or that I like to travel. Or that I like to shop while I’m traveling. Since I’m heading off to France (I know, again) in a week and a half, I thought I would write up a guide with everything I’ve learned about shopping overseas.
I know this may come as a shock to some of you, but I can be a bit obsessive when it comes to lipstick—especially when it comes to finding the right shade of lipstick. Which is how I wound up the owner of, count them, FOUR different Lancôme lipsticks, in the two-monthlong search for a specific one.
I can’t post this OOTD without getting teary. This was back when I had my lovely photographer/friend/colleague Danielle to take photos for me. And this was back when my hair was actually long. The one thing I don’t miss is the surroundings. They may make for good fashion photos, but try working somewhere where this is all that’s around you!
It was certainly too cold to leave the office without a coat, though it was just slightly warmer—enough for me not to have to bundle into my big, black puffer coat and break out my beautiful purple coat.
A tad blurry, but I had to point out that my friend Dagmar and I found out that we both had the same sunglasses. 🙂
I know it’s a tad matchy matchy, but I actually love this outfit. Black, white, and red is one of my favorite color combinations.
I’m not ashamed to say that this face of the day with Make Up For Ever Aqua Liner and MAC All Fired Up lipstick was inspired by a look I saw on another beauty blog. Even people obsessed with beauty products can get stuck in a rut.
That’s why Simone’s look was such a revelation for me—it reminded me of the days I actually used to wear COLOR on my EYES. And it gave me a way to ease myself back into it, and to do it again in a different, edgy way.
I may or may not intend to buy the colors she used (hey, green looks good with brown eyes!). but I immediately was reminded that, hey, I have the same liner in a gorgeous purple. And so the look was born.
Today I’m introducing you to new additions to my stash—Burberry Pale Barley eyeshadow and By Terry Rouge Terrybly Carnal Attraction lipstick—that totally fall under “The Blogger Made Me Do It,” though it didn’t really take a lot of prompting. And showing you the look I wound up using both of them to achieve.
