I cannot adequately express how obsessed I was (and kind of still am) with the debut album of Maxïmo Park (yes, the umlaut IS important!), A Certain Trigger. The hours I spent listening to it. The impetus to go visit Newcastle. (In late December. Yes, really.)
(You can pretty much say my musical tastes are fixated in 2005-2006.)
In some ways, any follow-up album was going to be a disappointment to me, because of how much I loved it. When they released the first single from that album, “Our Velocity,” I didn’t like it at all.
Can you guess what happened?
And with a line like, “Is it cold where you are this time of year?” it seemed pretty apropos for the season. 🙂
I did eventually wind up loving the entire album, Our Earthly Pleasures.
The next two albums, The National Health and Quicken the Heart, were not my favorites, alas. But I have it on good authority that they’re forthcoming (in February) album sounds quite good. At least to my friend who knows a lot about music. Though we don’t always have the same taste. Still, I’m hopeful, because I want one my favorites to come back to New York soon!
What are you listening to today? Is it cold where you are?
