One of my favorite things to do is to take something dressy and wear it for everyday by dressing it down with something casual. I finally got my long-coveted Alexandra Grecco tulle skirt, and the sun finally came out in New York, and so I spun together my favorite kind of OOTD: a magical one.
Believe it or not, even people who blog about beauty and fashion don’t always feel so creative when it comes to makeup or clothing combinations. Some days I’m just not feeling any of it. So it was a blessing the day that the Popbasic Ashbury Collection walked into my life.
What could be better than a trip to Paris? Dressing like one of Dégas’s ballerinas in Paris! Keiko Lynn posted this photo on Instagram from her Paris jaunt, and I was immediately in love…with her skirt.
I know that I haven’t really featured any lifestyle/life in NY posts lately. I guess that’s what happens when you get a job. With terrible hours. That’s not in Manhattan. I really haven’t done anything or gone anywhere. I didn’t even think that the area was a good place to photography my outfits, till someone told me that grungy industrial provides a good backdrop for “fashion.”
You guys, I might be getting old, but I was pretty underwhelmed by Oscar fashion this year! Even the dresses that everyone else loved, even the ones that I liked, I wasn’t blown away by anything. Not really.
I really missed color! And even the dresses in color, I found the designs a bit “meh.” Sigh.
Good thing the show was hilarious enough to cure my disappointment!
“Socks in Perfect French” was the subject line of an email I received from Mes Chaussettes Rouges, a French company that sells men’s socks. I was told that they’ve been catching on with women, as well, because everyone needs warm and well-made socks, and asked if I’d like to try a pair.
I don’t know if you know what New York has been like this winter, but let me demonstrate for you:
And it has left me feeling cold, as well as:
So when a lovely Frenchman named Jacques asks if you’d be interested in receiving warm socks from France, you say, “Oui! Bien sûr!” (And, of course, “Merci beaucoup!”)
I always joke that I could never be a Parisian/French woman, because I wear too much color. I so admire the minimalistic, neutral-color–wearing aesthetic that typifies Parisian style, I just don’t think I could ever pull it off long-term. (That’s why I adore reading Valentine and Naelle’s blogs, because they’re Parisians who dress however the hell they want to. 😉 )
Sometimes I go into Target and I come out with more than I bargained for. Case in point, this top. I know I should save my money for investment pieces, but this was so cute and decently priced. And it inspired this FOTD using Bite Beauty, Hourglass Cosmetics, and NARS.
