Sophia Webster for J.Crew Anneka kitten heel pumps

HELLOOOOOOO LOVER!!

Luckily for my wallet, this week’s Wishlist Wednesday item is theoretical only. I’m not a huge J.Crew person. I love their basic tees, and I do like some clothing, but it’s so overpriced. And so I never heard about, and subsequently missed, their collaboration with British shoe designer Sophia Webster. And I missed buying these Sophia Webster for J.Crew Anneka kitten heel pumps.

Music Monday #32 – “You Fucking Love It” by Dirty Pretty Things

Affilier

When the news came out that there was going to be another Libertines reunion that I was going to be missing, it got me going back and listening to all Libertines-related music. A personal favorite of mine was Carl Barat‘s next band, Dirty Pretty Things.

I know, I know. They will go down in the annals of history as a mediocre indie rock band. They were not nearly as good as The Libertines. But you know what? I don’t care. I love some of the music that sprang from this band, especially the songs off of their first album, Waterloo to Anywhere.

So here’s a raucous number off of that album for your Monday morning!

Music Monday #31- “Tristan” by Patrick Wolf

Affilier

I was creating a playlist on my mp3 player the other day, when I realized that “Tristan” by Patrick Wolf was somehow missing from my mp3 player. This is probably my favorite of his songs, off his Wind in the Wires album. Anyway, I quickly rectified this travesty, and then wound up listening to the song on repeat for a few days once I got home.

“Sorrow by name and sorrow by nature, working for joy on overtime” always strikes a chord with me. But it’s also such a powerful, and LOOK AT ME, I’M HERE kind of song. I adore it.

Tips for Shopping Overseas

Shopping overseas It will surprise no one that I like to shop. Or that I like to travel. Or that I like to shop while I’m traveling. Since I’m heading off to France (I know, again) in a week and a half, I thought I would write up a guide with everything I’ve learned about shopping overseas.

Affilier DSC_2171 I know that I haven’t really featured any lifestyle/life in NY posts lately. I guess that’s what happens when you get a job. With terrible hours. That’s not in Manhattan. I really haven’t done anything or gone anywhere. I didn’t even think that the area was a good place to photography my outfits, till someone told me that grungy industrial provides a good backdrop for “fashion.”

You tell me!

February 2014 Birchbox Unboxing

Affilier Acheté

No, you didn’t misread that. Yes, it says February 2014 Birchbox. I had canceled my Birchbox

(In case you’re not familiar with it, Birchbox is a monthly subscription service where, for just $10 a month, you receive a box full of deluxe-sized and travel-sized samples. You receive Birchbox points for every purchase you make and every review your write, which can be redeemed in their store. Get your own here.)

But then I saw that this month’s box was a collaboration with US Weekly. I keep seeing on the Birchbox UK and Birchbox France blogs that the often have collaboration boxes that look so cute and fun, so I thought I’d better make sure not to miss this one.

I should have listened to my original instinct.

Haul: Topshop The Damned Collection from Cult Beauty

Topshop The Damned Collection from Cult Beauty

I was so super excited when Cult Beauty had the Topshop The Damned Collection in its winter sale. I’d been dying to get my hand on Velvet Lips in Velveteen Ribbon ever since I saw it on I Covet Thee, but I had no money to buy it at the time, and then it sold out in the US. I literally bought the collection set for just the lipstick, but it was worth it, because it’s a complete face in a bag!

Topshop The Damned Collection

Funny story: Apparently nail polish is now considered a hazardous material, and so you can no longer ship it from the UK. In fact, because of this, it wasn’t letting me make my purchase. The amazing people at Cult Beauty responded to me right away and explained the situation, and said that they would remove the nail polish from the kit and send the rest to me. Awesome.

On to the look!

Review: Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish – Unluckiest of the lucky ones

I know that it’s been a while since I received the Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish™ Hot Cloth Cleanser Starter Kit that I won through Birchbloggers. You may or may not have been wondering about my review. Well, it’s finally ready.

Excited? 😉

Before I go any further, I do need to say that I feel truly thankful (heh, get it?) for having won this to try. It’s very hard writing a blog when you can’t afford new products to review. That’s probably why I took it as far as I did to really be able to give you a fair assessment.

The Liz Earle cleansing system works in two parts. The first step is the cream cleanser. Free from mineral oil, it contains naturally active ingredients, including eucalyptus and cocoa butter. It’s supposed to be a gentle cleanser, suited to all skin types, that still removes even the most stubborn of makeup. The second step is polishing with the muslin cloth. A gentle way to exfoliate your skin, it makes for a really lovely regimen.

Everything I’ve been reading about skin care lately has said to use cream-based cleansers, even if you have oily skin. Any cleanser that foams is supposed to be the devil. So this system definitely fits the bill.

Reviewing a cult product like this, one that has won over 90 beauty awards, one that so many people consider a holy grail product, you feel a certain burden of responsibility.

DSC_1289It’s just such a lovely system. Look at it.

Music Monday #6

You know a song is good when you run out of the shower to grab your phone so you can Shazam it from the radio. That’s what happened to me when “Pompeii” by Bastille came on the radio while I was in Paris this summer. Water dripping everywhere, I dashed from the shower to my bedroom and back, because I couldn’t live with the idea that I would never know what song it was.

It’s ironic I had to learn about a British band while I was in France, especially since most of the bands I listen to are British. But I guess I’ve been slipping as of late. Because when I came home and looked them up, it turns out they had a show scheduled in New York already, and it was sold out! (See? I’m not a hipster!!) Ah, well.

Their album, Bad Blood, is now out in the US (it came out in the UK in March), and you should check it out. In the meantime, now you know what the song is, so you can stay in the shower (or dry, whichever you prefer 😉 )!

(Check out this awesome version in Gaelic, too!)

What do you think? Was it worth the effort I went through? 🙂 What are you listening to right now?
